THIS IS A NEW EXPERIENCE THAT WE'RE OPENING TO THE PUBLIC AT THE END OF APRIL, WE'RE VISITORS WILL GET TO MEET 2 INCREDIBLE DINOSAUR SPECIMENS UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL. >> MY TEAM HAS BEEN HARD AT WORK THE PAST FEW WEEKS TRYING TO GET THE EXHIBIT INSTALLED EVERYTHING UP AND READY FOR THE GRAND OPENING ON APRIL 27TH. SO IMAGINE A BIG ROCK PIECES OF FOSSIL ON THE TOP ENCASED IN PLASTER AS IF IT WERE JUST BROUGHT OUT OF MONTANA TO NORTH CAROLINA. HERE INSIDE THIS PORTION OF THE DINER LAB. WE'RE ALSO GOING TO SHOW OFF SOME OF THE COOL TECHNOLOGY THAT PALEONTOLOGIST ARE USING TO ANSWER SOME OF THOSE SCIENTIFIC QUESTIONS. FOR EXAMPLE, AT THIS STATION, VISITORS WILL ACTUALLY GET TO DO A CT SCAN OF A DINOSAUR SKULL. THAT'S HERE AT THE MUSEUM. SO WE CAN START THE SCAN. >> WATCH IT. WORK. AND THEN SEE THE KIND OF INFORMATION AND DATA THAT PALEONTOLOGIST GET USING MODERN TECHNOLOGY. PALEONTOLOGY IS A LOT OF GOING OUT AND DIGGING UP THE DINOSAURS. BUT IT'S ALSO BRINGING THEM BACK INTO THE MUSEUM AND THEN USING TOOLS OF THE TRADE LIKE TECHNOLOGY TO ANSWER SO MANY INTERESTING QUESTIONS. WHEN VISITORS WALK INTO THE FOSSIL BLOCK THEATER, WE'LL SEE A REPRODUCTION OF EXACTLY HOW THE FOSSILS WERE FOUND IN THE GROUND IN MONTANA. THIS MODEL BEHIND ME IS HALF SCALE OF THE REAL THING. AND IMPORTANTLY, IT'S MODELED AFTER THE REAL DATA, THE ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS THAT ARE SCIENTISTS TOOK ALL OF THE FOSSILS THEMSELVES. I'm meteorologist KD Campbell in the Wral Severe weather center, we tied the record high. 92 degrees was also our 1st 90 degree day of the year out at RDU. That typically happens around May 11th and we average about 290 degree days during the month of May. However, the normal high in early May is just 77. For comparison, the record was tied going back to 2010 for that record. Today. Tomorrow, we're forecasting 90 the record's 93 a long standing record set all the way back in 1959. Let's talk about the weekend. It is not going to be so hot this weekend, but we've got the chance for some scattered showers and storms and it's going to be feeling a bit more humid as we see more moisture moving in 83 on Saturday, 81 on Sunday. We have high resolution model data available for Saturday and that's giving us a better idea of the hour by hour rain chances. So we customize these numbers for you when we went through our afternoon forecast cycle, about a 20% chance of rain in the morning through noon. A 30% chance during the early afternoon and rain chances peak at 40% so scattered storms late in the afternoon and into the evening future casts gives you a good idea of what we could see for the day Friday. We're likely to see dry weather throughout the day hitting 90 for a high at night. We can't rule out a stray storm pushing into our western counties but only a 20% chance Saturday, The axis of heavier rain is likely to stay just west of us. We could see some scattered showers and storms later in the day. And then Sunday as that boundary shifts east, we'll have a better chance of rain and storms. These are still going to be scattered in nature. So we're going with about a 50% chance of storms Sunday. Let's talk about the drought update. This was updated today and it shows abnormally dry conditions in yellow are expanding across the state. We're not upgraded to moderate drought anywhere at this point, but the abnormally dry region expanded by 20% from last week to this week. So we really need some rain. Saturday. I'm thinking a quarter of an inch of rain or less. We could see a little bit more on Sunday and you'll have additional chances for scattered storms Monday and Tuesday after that, just smaller rain chances, but the heat is back by Wednesday and Thursday of next week. We've got a couple of 90 degree days on the horizon.

A procession honoring fallen officer Alden Elliot, an officer with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, will leave the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiners' Office and travel to Bennett Funeral Home in Newton on N.C. Highway 16. Elliot and three other officers were shot and killed Monday.
